Hi Josh,

This is not really a complaint, but yeah, it is. I just took my husband out for 64th his birthday at Stan and Joe's. We parked on the street and saw, at 5:15, that the meters were in effect until 6. The meters take change (coins!), which no one actually has these days, right? So it was hot and we were tired and since we are otherwise scrupulous supporters of the local economy, we risked it and ... ok, got a $20 ticket. We had a lot of fun and it was worth it. I don't mind supporting the city of my birth.

Better, however, it seems to me, to install MODERN parking machines such as we find in Baltimore and DC where you can use paper bills or a credit card. You get a little slip of paper to put on your dash. I would be happy to pay MORE to park for this convenience.

So I come home and go online to pay my ticket. Despite the fact that my parking ticket LOOKS computer-generated, it's not on the system yet. I will likely forget it during the 7-days the system states it takes to register. So my ticket will be 30, 50 whatever dollars when it finally gets back on my radar. I am starting to be frustrated.

The city is not responsible for my bill tracking (I DID put it in my calendar to check back a week from now), but really, could we look at installing a modern system? I have to think we would do better economically over the long run. Local people will pay their tickets, but what about out-of-state visitors? If other states DO have reciprocity, what impression does that leave with our guests and what potential effect on tourism?

What do you think?

Thanks much and keep up the good work,

I think the article about the stolen cash is positively a big sign that Finance Director Tim Elliott should be given notice that he should be on stand-by in his office until this mystery is finally cleared up. I think that after 26 years Mr. Elliott nonchalantly stowed the bag of money in the vault - without thinking - because he has done this job all these years. That may be slightly harsh; however, now you may be getting a little more of the attitude that existed under the previous administration.

I also feel, as I do about the Congress of the US, that Mr. Elliott perhaps should be on his pension plan. That if he still feels that he is as good in his job as when he was 26 years younger, he could be given a small job. In the midst of a small depression in this country, laying off younger people who need the money desperately, are being asked to take non-payment fourloughs, et al, that this should be a consideration.

I also feel, Mayor, that you are doing an exceptional job with the materials and help available to you.

Hello. Please enlighten me: Why does the city need a City Manager???
Aren't there enough people with their inept hand in the cookie jar?

We are laying off people but paying for a City Manager. And, I'm sure as with
all self-serving political arms...there will be justification for overpaying this human
to fill the position.

Just look at Supt. Kevin Maxwell. Our tax dollars are continually siphoned off for school
projects but the board turns right around and steals our money to give this overpaid human
$20,000.00. And, that is only the money they stole that we know about. How much did they
pad into other documents?

So, can someone explain why this is necessary. And, why we are soo apathetic that we continually
allow the ilk of Erhlich, O'Malley, Busch, Miller and the like to seize office as if it is their birthright???

When will we grow some spine?? Thanks

Also, stop promoting and creating positions for all your campaign supporters. Is that why you did not eliminate all contract positions as you promised. Democrats are going to loose the elections both at the state and local levels.

Mr. Mayor I noticed you indicated a 5% reduction in contract position salaries. Why not cut all the contracts and recent conversions. Better yet, eliminate Doug Smith who is not qualified as City Administrator. Does he ever hold a degree in municipal budgeting or operating a city.

I disagree with your comment. After successfully transitioning from the private sector into the public sector, I took an added risk to work with the City of Annapolis. After having been layoff from the City of Annapolis recently and listening to Mayor Cohen break his oath of first targeting contract employees and hiring freezes, I found it hard to believe he hired Mr. Doug Smith who is well over six figures to recommend and form these Idea Teams (another waste of money). Then the Mayor goes on a campaign to remarket the city like it’s a game and waste more revenue to foolish propaganda. Mayor Cohen will have to eventually raise taxes and this includes fees for water and sewer services in light of concessions. The Mayor has other options, but is unwilling to work with staff. Anne Arundel and the rest of the State of Maryland responded to revenue shortfalls with furloughs, however, Josh is quick to fire and wasted a lot of resources. He also went behind the back of council. This is not transparency.

Dear Josh -

I'm part of Ward 1 and just read your response to the information distributed by ABC. I appreciate you addressing any inaccuracies. I implore you to adhere to your campaign platform and do explore every option prior to even considering a raise in property taxes. Increasing taxes on an already burdened population cannot be the answer. Decreasing services (trash pickup only once a week, etc....), additional cuts in personnel (I fear that people view employment by the government as a safe haven --- instead our governments should be run with fiscal responsibility in mind. If we can't afford the staff we have, then cut!), furloughs, etc.... We are overtaxed already!!!

Thanks.

I think that trying to stir up feedback through the site is great, but I'm wondering if it wouldn't be beneficial to hold a live public forum to discuss what's going on. As I wrote earlier in the day, I get the sense that there are a lot of people who don't know what's at stake or what the city's vision for this space is: http://www.annapolissound.com/?p=646

I would love to see a pet themed shop! My husband and I have lived in Annapolis for 15 years and have enjoyed taking our dogs for walks downtown. This would be a wonderful location.

The city market should definitely remain a collection of independent vendors! One of the things that makes Annapolis downtown unique is just that. We don't need more "chain" establishments.

For instance, I support the concept of pet treats and toys in one of the booths. It provides a variety that should be the hallmark of the market house. Annapolis and its visitors (including dogs arriving by boat) are a huge collection of pet lovers! As well, supporting the individual entrepreneurial spirit is an important part of our nation's history and success.

Grant Stephanie Moore's homemade pet treats a space in our market house!!
